Got to admit I've got so far to go
Make so many mistakes and I'm sure that You know
Sometimes it seems no matter how hard I try
With all the pressures in life I just can't get it all right
But I'm trying so hard to learn from the best
Being patient and kind, filled with Your tenderness
'Cause I know that he'll learn from the things that he sees
And the Jesus he finds will be the Jesus in me
Right now from where he stands I may seem mighty tall
But it's only 'cause I'm learning from the best Father of them all

My little big guy, Trevor, used to tell me he wanted to be just like me, his daddy. I would hear this song, when he wasn't around and tears would well up in my eyes and I'd get a lump in my throat, because I felt I wasn't good enough for him to want to be like me. His words, his trust in me, were always on my mind and in my heart. as I begged for God to help me be a better daddy. I wanted to be a  better daddy not only to Trevor, but to his brother Shea and his sisters, Arianne and Katilynn, as well.

As many readers may already know, we unexpectedly lost Trevor on January 16, 2004 and I'll never get to see him grow up - he's with Jesus now. I will always keep Trevor's memory to remind me to always work toward being closer to God and being the daddy he always saw me to be.

If you have children in your life, please remember this and be the best daddy or mommy you can be - let those children see the Jesus in you. Do it today, because you may not have a tomorrow.
